    Community education combined with the installation of Energy Management Systems will result in an estimated 20% reduction in energy bills for 150 houses in Blacon, Cheshire. The final outcome will be an energy efficiency makeover of both houses and minds!

  • Project: Horwich Parkway Wind Turbines
    Grant Recipient: Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive (GMPTE)

    Project Lifetime Carbon Saving: 537tonnes

    Horwich Parkway Railway station will see the construction of two 11kW Gaia wind turbines. The turbines will provide the station with renewable energy, the local schools with educational materials and even passers-by with a CO2 counter to mark the turbines’ progress.

    Project Lifetime Carbon Saving: 109tonnes

    Loft and cavity wall insulation and the installation of a 10.8 kWp solar photovoltaic system will make Brabins Endowed School more energy efficient whilst helping it to reduce carbon emissions

    The installation of a wind turbine will provide clean energy to a community based farm and environmental centre, allowing it to focus the money saved on offering employment for disadvantaged individuals and supplying healthy food for the community.

    Funding Awarded: £10,000
    Project Lifetime Carbon Saving: 549tonnes

    Green Doctor is aiming to tackle fuel poverty and promote positive environmental behaviour change in homes across Winsford. Residents will be offered one-to-one ‘house calls’ to benefit from a free energy survey, energy saving equipment, and advice and support on other changes they could make to save CO2 and money!

    Project Lifetime Carbon Saving: 851tonnes

    Delivered by the Mersey Forest, Community Forests Northwest is facilitating the planting of trees by local communities and schools. By getting everyone involved, they hope to inspire green living as well as green fingers!

    Project Lifetime Carbon Saving: 1,478tonnes

    Foundation has supported the CTC to deliver its “Workplace Challenge” programme across Greater Manchester. The Challenge aims to get more people cycling instead of driving to work. As well as reducing their carbon footprint, participants will improve their fitness and save on travel costs!

  • Project: Pilling St John's School PV installation
    Grant Recipient: Pilling St John's CE Primary School

    Funding Awarded: £9,667
    Project Lifetime Carbon Saving: 34tonnes

    The installation of 18 solar photovoltaic panels at Pilling St John’s CE Primary School’s will generate 2,532 kWh of carbon free electricity for the school each year ,while creating long term money savings and hopefully inspiring ‘greener’ pupils along the way.

    Grant Recipient: Redbridge High School

    Funding Awarded: £24,250
    Project Lifetime Carbon Saving: 170tonnes

    Redbridge High School is using money from Foundation to reduce energy consumption and lower carbon emissions by installing 90 solar panels onto the school’s main roof.

    With the help of funding from Foundation and some Cumbrian sunshine, Hawkshead Esthwaite Primary School hopes to improve its energy use and reduce its carbon emissions by installing solar photovoltaic panels onto the school roof.

    The installation of photovoltaic panels onto Maricourt Catholic High School’s sports hall roof will not only create energy for the school but also subject matter for the lessons. The pupils will benefit from seeing the science of renewable energies in action whilst the school reduces its carbon emissions.

    Funding Awarded: £50,000
    Project Lifetime Carbon Saving: 3,389tonnes

    The launch of an interest-free loan scheme for energy saving measures is allowing members of the Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde Coast Credit Union to make crucial energy efficient changes to their homes, such as the installation of energy-efficient boilers, to help reduce both their fuel bills and carbon footprint!

  • Project: All Seasons Combined Heat and Power
    Grant Recipient: Action Nation

    Funding Awarded: £45,000
    Project Lifetime Carbon Saving: 1,540tonnes

    Chorley’s All Seasons Leisure Centre will benefit from a 65kWe micro turbine part funded by Foundation. The turbine will create both heat and power for the centre, making it more energy and money efficient, while reducing carbon emissions, whatever the season.

    Rivermeet Community Cooperative has launched Eco Teams, a pioneering project that is training 20 enthusiastic volunteers from Cockermouth, and surrounding villages, to become the green leaders of their local communities and implement changes that will cut carbon emissions and save people money.

  • Project: Cumbria Sustainable Community Buildings Project

    Project Lifetime Carbon Saving: 134tonnes

    Cumbria has seen a change in energy efficiency through the 42 photovoltaic panels installed at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School and sheep’s wool insulation in Rosley Village Hall. Assisted by Foundation, the installations will help both buildings save money as well as energy.

    Project Lifetime Carbon Saving: 46tonnes

    The Wirral CosyHomes programme is supplying boiler replacements and insulation to low-income households, saving both energy and money for the local residents. With funding from Foundation, the project can now provide solar hot water heating to many properties that are ineligible for government grants.

    The installation of solar panels has enabled residents in Northwich to heat their water at half the usual cost, whilst at the same time reducing carbon emissions; all thanks to the combined work of the Weaver Vale Housing Trust and the money provided by Foundation towards the cost of the project.

    Bickerton Village Hall is setting an example to village halls nationwide by installing 27 locally made electricity producing solar panels on its roof, helping the hall to become self-sufficient and benefiting over 10,000 people during its lifetime.

    Funding Awarded: £36,000
    Project Lifetime Carbon Saving: 175tonnes

    The installation of wood-burning stoves in 15 Trafford homes is helping people currently spending more than 10% of their income on energy to reduce their fuel bills and save C02. The local economy is also benefiting as opportunities emerge for businesses to install stoves, supply wood, or redirect waste wood from landfill.

  • Project: Astley Moss mossland restoration

    The restoration of 2.5 hectares of mossland at Astley Moss in Leigh is safeguarding the habitats of local wildlife and has the potential to deliver climate change benefits. The creation of pedestrian access to allow public viewing of the restored mossland will create some green tourism benefits to the area too!

    Project Lifetime Carbon Saving: 38tonnes

    Two community cooperatives in South Manchester have joined forces to stimulate discussion and encourage friends, neighbours and work colleagues to develop their own ideas to respond to energy and climate change concerns. In addition, these co-ops will be able to bulk buy for energy-saving products within the community.

  • Project: Pedal Power in Warrington
    Grant Recipient: Bikeright!

    Project Lifetime Carbon Saving:

    Employees at Birchwood Business Park, Warrington, are being encouraged to get on their bikes to make the commute between home and work in a project that will reduce congestion and CO2 emissions, while improving their health and their bank balance.

    Funding Awarded: £20,000
    Project Lifetime Carbon Saving: 240tonnes

    Pendle Borough council is employing some simple solutions to help tackle fuel poverty in local households. New boilers with over 90% efficiency, improvements of insulation to lofts, cavities and pipes that helps people monitor their energy usage are all part of the answer.
