Sir Steve Redgrave, Matthew Pinsent, James Cracknell… All will go down in history as British rowing greats. Well now hoping to join them is Foundation’s business development manager, David Marnell, who has agreed to ditch his suit and get his sportswear on to take part in the upcoming Salford Charity Dragon Boat Festival!
He will be joining a team of people from KRO bar and restaurants to compete in the festival which is being organised as a fun way for people to raise money for charity, with an emphasis on team building and competitive spirit.
KRO has kindly nominated Foundation as its charity of choice which means that all of the sponsorship money raised by the team will be used to support creative carbon-reduction projects right here in our region.
The festival will be held on Sunday 20th June 2010 at Ontario Basin at Salford Quays.
During the day, the team will get three chances to row a short course of around 250 metres. If they manage to record a decent time, they could also qualify for the Grand Final which will see a race to the finish between the fastest teams!
David says: “I began my amateur rowing career and fondness for the water way back in the early 80s as part of the New Brighton Sea Cadets. Since then I've achieved some magnificent feats such as rowing across the local swimming pool in a beginner’s canoe and clocking up substantial sea hours commuting to work on the Mersey Ferry. It's this experience that has given me the endurance, skill and sheer strength I will need to compete in the 2010 Salford Charity Dragon Boat Festival.”
If you’d like to support David in his ‘oarsome’ challenge then please donate here! To ensure we recognise your support, please complete the box which asks “How did you hear about Foundation?” with the words “dragon boat.”
