Corporate response to climate change is becoming more innovative as organisations see the opportunity to reduce emissions and build a forward-thinking profile in this vital area. We can help you find a way of working with us that will best suit the current needs and expectations of your business.

1. Carbon compensation

   Carbon compensation is a local alternative to carbon offsetting. Unlike many traditional offsetting schemes, we guarantee that your contribution will be kept within the Northwest to fund carbon-reduction projects that will benefit local communities near you. There are many ways you can compensate for your carbon emissions. Including:

   Based on an overall carbon footprint

   If your business has calculated the size of its carbon footprint you can make a contribution to Foundation on a £ per tonne basis (at a level to be agreed).

   Based on specific actions within your business

   This could be on a small amount per specified unit of business. For example you could compensate for the environmental impact of your transport activities based on the number of road journeys or amount of flights taken as part of your business travel.

   Event compensation

   We have created a simple rate card that allows you to compensate for events you may hold, such as award dinners or conferences. Our rates take into account all of the factors that can contribute to an event’s environmental impact, such as delegates travel and venue energy usage.

2. Energy Efficiency

   If your business has put in place resource efficiency targets and is creating annual financial savings then you could donate a percentage of those savings to us, which we will then invest in local community projects to do the same!

3. Customer fundraising

   This is a donation route often favoured by our business-to-consumer partners who collect small contributions from their customers to recognise the carbon footprint of their purchase and pass on these contributions to Foundation.

4. Charitable Donation

   Your business can also make a traditional charitable donation which will be used to fund carbon-reduction projects across the Northwest.

Foundation will:

• Work with you to develop a partnership that meets your corporate social aspirations and your commercial needs.
• Help you to improve your environmental performance (if you need help in this area) through our relationship with the Enworks programme and put you in touch with other companies that are committed to reducing their carbon footprint through our links to the BITC May Day Network.
• Promote your carbon reduction activities and your partnership with Foundation as widely as possible. This will help to build your environmental credentials and your profile within the region.
• Offer you the chance to target where your money goes. Uniquely, Foundation is able to direct funding to carbon reduction projects in communities close to your area of operations.
• Identify and appraise robust community-based carbon saving projects. All of the projects supported by Foundation are closely monitored and the carbon savings generated are independently verified.
